DesignerApps has released a free version of their multiplayer-gaming strategy planning tool, GamePlan.
GamePlan ‘Free’ is a fully functioning version of the app when used offline, where you can still download maps, play with all the tools, and get a feel for the user interface. When taken online, the free version doesn’t allow you to host a room or edit a map online, but you can still connect to a hosted room and view any changes made.
To coincide with this, Version 1.2 has also been released, which carries some minor functionality updates, as well allowing cross-compatibility between free and full versions of the app.
“The free version of GamePlan will allow users to get a feel for what the app is like, and still participate online in a passive-sense” said Mark Hockings, founder and CEO of DesignerApps.
“Even with the relatively low prices of apps these days, many users can be wary about spending money on something they may not end up using, so this free version allows people to ‘try before they buy’ and we’ve tried to keep the restrictions to a minimum”
To coincide with the Free version’s launch. The Full version of GamePlan, as well as the In-App unlock is currently running at a 50% discount ($1.99 / £1.49 / 1.99 euro) making it a perfect time for free users to upgrade if they like the app.
Full 1.2 change log:
Screen will dim when offline. Added support for special characters in user and room names. Minor UI tweaks and bug fixes. Changes to support new FREE version (separate trial app available now. All users must have v1.2 to connect in the same session). Android: compatibility fixes for older devices.

Promo codes available on request.
EDINBURGH, Scotland, 20th August – Independent game developer TigerFace Games will release collaborative multiplayer title Smash Party on iPad on the 23rd of August.
Smash Party is a game for four players aged 4+, based around the concept of collaborating and working together to tackle questions on maths, spelling and vocabulary. Played on a single tablet device, players gather around each side and are allocated an area of the screen which either displays the question they are to ask their fellow players or the potential answers they are given.
Taking turns to ask questions, each player must work together to come up with the answer and, in doing so, are encouraged to explain their thinking in a confident manner and improve both problem solving and social skills. At the end of each round, players are rewarded with colourful and noisy celebrations, ranging from whack-a-mole challenges through to sparkling star trails which can be scattered across the screen.

Ideal for playing in the classroom or at home with friends, Smash Party delivers tons of challenge across a massive variety of subjects and a wide span of questions in each.

Sprint (NYSE: S) and Kyocera Communications, Inc. today announced the launch of Kyocera Rise, an Android™ smartphone with a full QWERTY slide-out keypad and high-resolution touchscreen display. Kyocera Rise offers feature-phone loyalists the ability to easily move up to a smartphone without losing their tactile keyboard or spending a lot of money.

Equipped with Android 4.0 operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, Kyocera Rise will be available in all Sprint retail channels, including Web Sales (www.sprint.com) and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) beginning Sunday, Aug. 19, for $19.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate with a new line of service or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement. It will be available without a contract at www.virginmobileusa.com beginning Friday, Aug. 31, for $99.99. (Pricing excludes taxes.)

“Kyocera Rise brings customers the comfort of an easy-to-use Android smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard,” said David Owens, vice president-Product Development, Sprint. “It is a great option for customers who are new to smartphones, parents looking for the perfect first device for their teens and tweens or anyone looking for a device with an impressive set of features at a great price. This is a perfect addition to round out our Android portfolio.”

A survey by industry analyst firm Yankee Group earlier this year revealed that 69 percent of consumers called a QWERTY keypad a “must have” or “nice to have” feature on their mobile devices. Kyocera Rise combines that feature with a 3.5-inch IPS LCD touchscreen display for easy navigation, Web browsing and stunning displays of pictures and video.

“There’s a significant population of underserved consumers out there for whom a touchscreen simply isn’t enough,” said Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager-Global Sales and Marketing, Kyocera Communications Inc. “For these people, keys are a vital feature. Along with smartphone users who love their keys, approximately half of mobile users still have feature phones with keypads, so they’re comfortable using keys. Kyocera Rise has all the features you’d want in a smartphone in an attractive and affordable 3G device that will appeal to those underserved consumers.”

Kyocera Rise features a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive 480×320 IPS LCD touchscreen display and Swype for rapid text entry. Its 1,500mAh Lithium-ion battery ensures long periods of use between charges and provides more than 8.5 hours of talk time. Additional features include:

  • Google Play™ with access to hundreds of thousands of apps
  • 1GHz MSM8655 Qualcomm Snapdragon® processor for fast access to apps and Web surfing
  • 3.2-megapixel camera with an LED flash and 30 frame-per-second camcorder
  • Kyocera’s “Eco Mode” software to better monitor and conserve battery power
  • microSD™ memory card support up to 32GB
  • Dedicated capacitive menu button for easy access to application-specific features
  • Sprint ID, offering an innovative way to personalize Android smartphones with apps, widgets, wallpapers, ringtones and more
  • In addition to Sprint’s nationwide 3G network, Kyocera Rise connects over Wi-Fi (b/g/n) networks, supports Stereo Bluetooth® (2.1 + EDR) wireless technology and includes a high-speed USB 2.0 port

Kyocera Rise customers can enjoy an unlimited data experience with Sprint Everything Data plans. Sprint’s Everything Data plan with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM includes unlimited Web, texting and calling to and from any mobile in America while on the Sprint Network, starting at just $79.99 per month for smartphones – a savings of $20 per month versus Verizon’s comparable plan with unlimited talk, text and 2GB Web (excludes taxes and surcharges).

Consumers looking for a commitment-free option can pair the Kyocera Rise with Virgin Mobile’s Beyond Talk unlimited data and messaging plans that start at $35 per month for 300 minutes of voice and include unlimited messaging and data. For those looking for a bit more talk time, the $45 plan offers 1,200 minutes of voice and the $55 plan offers unlimited voice each month. All plans include unlimited messaging and data (plans include 2.5GB of full-speed data).1

In addition, Sprint is deploying Network Vision – an all-new network from Sprint that offers enhanced 3G service – with a stronger wireless signal, faster download speeds, expanded coverage and better in-building performance – and 4G LTE, with faster data applications. Sprint rolled out 4G LTE to millions of people in 15 cities on July 15 and plans to introduce more markets to the network in 2012. By the end of 2013, Sprint expects to have largely completed the build out of its all-new 4G LTE nationwide network – with an enhanced 3G network – covering 250 million people across the United States. Fluid Football

LONDON – August 16, 2012 – AppyNation and Gray Cooper Media today announced the launch of Fluid Football, the next evolution in tactical soccer games, now available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Developed by Chromativity in close collaboration with professional football commentators Andy Gray and Richard Keys, Fluid Football’s arrival ushers in a new type of football game that gives players unparalleled freedom to work their way through a series of challenging set piece scenarios using whatever combination of real world tactics they deem suitable in order to score and win.

Designed to appeal to any football fan’s inner strategist, Fluid Football puts real-time tactical decision making right at the player’s fingertips. Faced with a variety of real-world scenarios, players plan their strategy in real time via an overhead view of the pitch, stringing together passes, out-pacing defenders, setting up pinpoint crosses and any one of hundreds of possible strategies. Players can devise complex sequences and strategies via simple finger swipes to direct their team’s actions to line up a shot on goal. The camera then switches to a 3D ‘player’s eye’ view in which the player must successfully direct their shot on target against the goalkeeper and defenders.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing such a unique tactical football title to the App Store,” said Andy Gray, Director, Gray Cooper Media. “We’ve been very closely involved with the game’s development from day one and we’ve invested a lot of our personal experience into the game to ensure it has as much authenticity as possible. If you can do it on the field you can do it in Fluid Football.”

Fluid Football is now available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch at  http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/id524972269

Fluid Football is listed as Fluid Soccer on the App Store in the United States and Canada.
