Google News Badges Are The Start Of Something Big

Posted on: July 16, 2011

This week Google has announced the release of Google News badges. Every time you read an article on your favorite news topic you’ll receive a special badge. So, the more you read, the higher the level badge you’ll obtain. The badges start at Bronze and then work their way up to Silver, Gold, Platinum and then Ultimate. This sounds like a fun and fantastic way to get students to read more too. Since many of us have played video games or mobile games at some point, we know how proud we feel when we reach a certain level in a game. These new Google News badges are done the same way. If you’re an avid news junkie, you could turn to a friend or family member and say, “Hey! I just received the Google News Gold level badge. What level are you on?” These new badges makes the news not only informative, but fun and you can now compete with other people who enjoy reading the news just as much as you do.

According the Google, they have over 500 different badges available for all sorts of news topics such as Harry Potter news, Sports News, Political News and many more!

Score another one for Google. Their developers are definitely creative and trendy.  It sounds like Google is doing a lot of the right things to improve their company and the world around them. It’s no wonder their stock keeps on rising.

-GOOGLE STAT: The average reader of political news has read 20 articles about politics in the last six months.
